DICKENS, CHARLES

Martin Chuzzlewit.

500,00 kr.

Chapman and Hall, 1844. Early edition. 624 pp. With illustrations by Phiz. Half calf with gilt ornamented spine in very good condition. Contemporary binding. Edgeworn with darkened edges and scattered foxing. Considerable wear to boards. With bookplate on paste-down from ‘Joseph Samuel Lescher’ and signature from same  (J. S. Lescher) on flyleaf. From a pipe-smoker’s collection giving the book a sweet tobacco scent.

This book is an early edition of one of Dickens' lesser known works. It meets the usual first edition points such as the errata leaf having 14 lines and preface dated to 'twenty-fifth June 1844'. The book has neither frontispiece nor engraved title page, which qualify for a true first edition - making this one early and contemporary if not a first.
