In very good condition considering its age with scattered foxing, open tear in top of spine and tiny stains on front wrap. All three edges of page block discoloured by an impressive lifespan of 145 years.

Thomas Bewick was a very important figure in the development of wood engraving. Working primarily in the 18th and 19th century, this master of the craft was especially recognised for his 'A History Of British Birds' from the turn of that century - with its outstanding examples of wood engraving. This book published after his death contains quite a few illustrations from his original wood engravings and will definitely serve as a worthy introduction to the works of the master.
