More than anything, this collection of polaroids dating from 1969-75 showcase Warhol's ability to create an artistic sphere around him in the New York art scene back in the day. The polaroid's candid nature is quite masterfully employed and throughout the eleven books, the subjects seem to be experimenting while remaining quite naturally themselves - something the artist inspired them to. In a way all the people featured on his photographs '...are Andy Warhol characters' as written in the foreword. More than anything 'Red Books' is a window to those very influential years in New York.
